Making Miracles

By Phillip Harter

Hello, and thank you for being here. My name is Phillip Harter, and I’m both a survivor of childhood trauma and have spent  great deal of time as a caretaker for children who are walking similar paths. Pretty much my entire childhood was spent navigating the foster care system, a journey that brought challenges I could not have imagined. Those experiences shaped me, broke me in some ways, and strengthened me in others. It’s taken The Lord more than a quarter century to unscramble the mess that I was, and to build the person I am today. This journey inspired my work as a foster parent, in residential care, in the Sunday School rooms, and church pulpits. I’ve spent 20 years in church ministry, 25 years working with kids, and the past several years turning back to my tribe—supporting and loving hurting kids from hard places.

As a Christian, I believe in the immense value and unspeakable worth of every individual from the moment they are conceived in the heart of God. I believe that we are loved far more than we could possibly imagine by our Heavenly Father. His desire is that we would be raised to feel and know these truths from our earliest experiences. However; sin, hate, and brokenness lead people to make choices to do unspeakable things—some intentionally, some reluctantly, and some ignorantly; but all in stark contrast to that great love. I also believe that the rediscovery and acceptance of that true worth and value along the experience of real, safe love are at the heart of healing the destruction we’ve experience. I’ve known first hand this vast contrast and the difficult journey back. These experiences have given great meaning to my life and inspired my first book, Miracles in the Making, the series, The Kid Whisperer, and a great maybe other projects to come. My writing reflects my desire to honestly acknowledge the ugly truth of trauma and the bright light of hope that can be shined by those who illuminate the path of healing.

I don’t know where you are in your journey today, but I want you to know this: you have immense value, and your worth is far beyond your widest comprehension. You deserve love. I know there are days when it feels like you’ll never be “okay;” that the overwhelming power of your emotions, the weight of your past, or the depth of your struggles are simply too much. But I’m here to tell you that healing is possible. You can find peace, you can find joy, and YES, even happiness—even after all you’ve been through.

For those of you who are trying to be the hero to kids from hard places, I see you! I know how hard it can be, wondering if you’ll ever break through, if the love you’re pouring out will ever be enough. I plead with you—Don’t give up! Keep going! Keep loving! Keep overlooking the behaviors that are masking the pain. Focus on connection. Every act of patience, every moment of understanding, and every ounce of grace you give is making a difference! You are paying the price for wounds you didn’t create, and your work is more valuable than you can possibly imagine!

This blog is the critical intersection of my journey and yours. Here, I’ll share authentic insights from my journey, the lessons I’ve learned, and the inspiration behind my writing. Whether you share my faith or are still discovering your own path, you are welcome here. This space is rooted in the universal truths: that everyone has immense value and that love has the power to transform lives. I know; in the depths of despair and the trenches of the battle: faith can be hard to come by; but tell me—Where could it possibly be more needed?

My hope is to create a community where we can explore healing, share stories, and connect on the shared belief that no matter where we’ve been, we are all deserving of love and wholeness. I want the reality that you’re not alone to become tangible and transformative.

I invite you to join me in this conversation. Together, let’s build a space that acknowledges, affirms, and empowers the people we were created to be and takes back control from those who use, abuse, and defile. Let’s join hands and help walk each other out of the darkness and into the light. It really does exist…Don’t believe me? Well then have the courage to take my hand and see for yourself!

Warmly,

Phillip Harter
